The Rail Ale Festival, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025, is held at the historic Barrow Hill Roundhouse in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. This unique festival combines the charm of Britain's last surviving operational railway roundhouse with an extensive selection of over 400 real ales, craft beers, ciders, and spirits, including offerings from local breweries in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. Attendees can enjoy live music spanning various genres, from rock and ska to country, featuring acts like Queen tribute band Flash and the country-themed "Nashville @ The Roundhouse" on Sunday. The festival also offers a variety of street food options, the popular Rail Ale train rides, and a dedicated shuttle service from Chesterfield railway station. While the event is family-friendly during the day, it transitions to an adults-only atmosphere after 6:00 PM. Camping facilities are available for those wishing to stay overnight.
