Phipps NBC (Phipps Northampton Brewery Company) is a historic English brewery originally founded in 1801 in Towcester and based in Northampton since 1817, growing into the largest brewer in the Midlands under the Phipps family through the 19th century. After being acquired by Watney Mann in 1960 and ceasing traditional brewing in 1974, the brand lay dormant until local management revived Phipps IPA in 2008 using original recipes and brewer expertise. In 2014, production returned to Northampton with the restoration of the Victorian Albion Brewery on Kingswell Street, the original site where many historic beers were once brewed; the Phipps family rejoined the company, and a taproom bar opened in 2015. Today, Phipps NBC produces a wide range of heritage and modern real ales—like IPA, Red Star, Ratliffe’s Stout, Diamond Ale, Gold Star, and more—on site, and supplies cask and bottled beers, along with Phipps gin, to pubs and shops across Northamptonshire and beyond.
