The South West's distinctive beer festival culture

The South West combines a stunning coastline, deep brewing heritage and a restless craft scene to make one of Britain's most characterful festival regions. From Bristol's busy calendar to Cornwall's Celtic celebrations, the beer here is as varied as the landscape.

Bristol is one of the country's great beer cities and its festivals reflect that, mixing traditional cask with experimental, barrel-aged and modern keg. Bath adds Georgian elegance to the regional calendar, while Exeter and Plymouth carry Devon's character and Cornwall runs coastal events with a strong sense of local identity.

The settings are half the appeal out here, from harbourside venues and heritage railways to countryside showgrounds. Expect West Country cider sharing the bar with the beer, a friendly pace, and a real pride in the brewers on the taps.

With the coast and the moors close by, a festival here easily turns into a proper weekend away. See the brewers you will meet in our South West breweries guide, and browse the festivals below to start planning.

50 Shades of Ale - West Dorset CAMRA’s 50th Anniversary Ale Trail

Wed 1 April - Mon 31 August 2026

The Digby Tap, Sherborne

*Multi-Venue Event* As part of West Dorset CAMRA’s 50th anniversary celebrations, we thought it would be a great idea to have an Ale Trail (or 5!) around our area. The pubs included are those who have been in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide the most times and have agreed to be involved. The aim is to increase footfall across the pubs, without making the event too onerous for the pub staff. The overarching trail is split into 5 sub-trails, colour-coded and within reasonable geographical closeness – with a couple of outliers in each trail, we want you to explore pubs you might not have visited before! The pubs involved have been supplied with inked stamps to evidence your visit. Any drink qualifies for a stamp, not only real ale, and soft drinks are included. As well as being within the Spring 2026 edition of the Giant’s Pint, participants can also download the trail, pubs will accept both versions.
