Newbarns Brewery

Newbarns Brewery and Taproom, Edinburgh

Newbarns Brewery, established in 2019 and opening its Leith, Edinburgh taproom in early 2020, was founded by seasoned brewers Gordon McKenzie, Emma McIntosh (both ex-Kernel Brewery), alongside Jonny Hamilton and Freddie Bjerkseth of Beavertown pedigree. Their ethos is rooted in approachable, sessionable beer—think crisp pilsners, oat lagers, clean pale ales and low-ABV “table beers”—all brewed using traditional manual kit inspired by 1970s technic and classic pub aesthetics . After delays due to COVID, they initially contracted brewing elsewhere but have since built a taproom on Jane Street featuring eight rotating taps, a friendly pub atmosphere, outdoor space, and community-focused events. Their product line includes beers like their Helles lager (malted locally), Extra‑hopped pilsner and a robust stout, with online sales, merchandise, and on-site service driving their growth.
