Sulwath Brewers

Sulwath Brewers, established in 1995 and based in Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway, is a family-run microbrewery specialising in traditional real ales made with local ingredients and the region’s soft water for a mellow flavour. Their portfolio includes about 14 core beers—such as Criffel, Cuil Hill, Galloway Gold, Knockendoch, and the award-winning porter Black Galloway—crafted using Maris Otter malt and whole hops, often named after local landscapes. The taproom is fully licensed and open most weekdays, offering tours and direct beer sales on-site, while their brews reach outlets across the UK from Devon to Aberdeen. Black Galloway has earned multiple honours, including gold at the SIBA Scottish Beer Awards and various CAMRA accolades for best porter in Scotland.
