Thornsett Brewery and Hop Yard

​Thornsett Brewery & Hop Yard, founded by Paul Medcraft in 2016, is a family-run, off-grid brewery nestled in the High Peak village of New Mills, Derbyshire. What began as a homebrewing hobby evolved into a sustainable enterprise located on Thornsett Fields Farm, where a disused hay barn was transformed into a solar- and gas-powered brewery. The brewery uses natural spring water from the farm and features an organic hop yard—certified by the British Hop Society as the first of its kind in Northern England—growing eight hop varieties. Thornsett produces a range of handcrafted ales, including 'He's Behind You' (IPA), 'New Mills Madness' (Premium Pale Ale), and 'Beep Beep Corner' (Stout), with labels designed by local artist Clare Allan. The brewery also hosts seasonal taproom events and an annual summer beer festival, celebrating local beer, food, and music.
