The Manchester brewing scene
Manchester's brewing boom was built under the railway. The arches of Ancoats, Piccadilly and Salford gave breweries cheap, tall spaces to fit tanks into, and Cloudwater, Track, Squawk and Pomona Island turned them into taprooms people plan weekends around. The modern Manchester style leans hazy and hop-forward, but the city keeps a cask backbone through Marble, Blackjack and Runaway.
Almost every brewery here pours from its own bar at the weekend, so the city doubles as a brewery trail. The same names anchor Manchester's festivals, from the Craft Brew Festival to the smaller Chorlton and Salford events, which makes a favourite brewery an easy way into a weekend out.

4T's Brewery, established in 2010 in Warrington, Cheshire, is a craft brewery known for its extensive range of cask, keg, and canned beers, including the popular Hop Monster series. Operating from John’s Garage, they upgraded to a 2,000L kit in 2018 and added a canning line in 2020, focusing on producing flavor-packed ales and lagers.

Balance Brewing & Blending, founded in 2021 by James Horrocks and Will Harris in a railway arch by Manchester Piccadilly, is the city’s first and only brewery dedicated entirely to barrel‑aged, mixed‑culture beers. With a focus on wild fermentation using British‑sourced ingredients, they produce complex yet drinkable sours and saisons—like their flagship Saison des Maison—via traditional methods and months‑long barrel ageing. Their taproom, opened in mid‑2023 in a tasteful space of oak and visible barrels, offers six rotating draughts plus permanent lines, bottles to take away, and guided brewery tours, creating a welcoming community hub centred on exploration of funky, nuanced beer.

Big Trip Brewery is a Manchester-based microbrewery located in Little Ancoats, specializing in modern craft beers. They produce a variety of hazy, tropical, and hoppy IPAs, often focusing on sessionable pale ales, with several vegan-friendly and gluten-free options available.

Blackjack are all about brewing approachable, balanced beers - beers made to style - brewed with determined detail and steely eyed consistency. Our beers are a reflection of the British Pub culture, within which we grew up, where we discovered the unfussy - oak floored - drinking beers we never forgot about. Now we brew those classics for the modern audience with modern technique & a twist of the future.

Born out of a hobby and a challenge in 2015, Burton Road Brewing Co has been growing ever since. Initially contract brewing at Alphabet Brewing Co before moving to Mobberley Brewhouse where we expanded our range to 12 beers. All profits have been reinvested along the way to build us towards our eventual goal of our own Brewery on Burton Road.
