Abbeydale Brewery

Sheffield

Abbeydale Brewery is a well-established independent brewery founded in 1996 in Sheffield, blending tradition with experimentation through a core range of classic pale ales and bitters—most notably Moonshine, which accounts for around 50% of production—alongside a weekly rotating special from its Brewers Emporium and Funk Dungeon sour/barrel-ageing program. As of October 2024, it became the first 100% employee-owned brewery in the UK under Sheffield Beerworks EOT Ltd, ensuring its community-oriented ethos continues through collective ownership. Producing over 220 barrels weekly with a team of highly trained staff, Abbeydale now offers a diverse portfolio across cask, keg, can, and export channels—including gluten-free and vegan-friendly options. A local favourite, Reddit users routinely praise Moonshine and their hoppy canned and dark beers, calling Abbeydale “the best for their traditional cask ales” and noting that Heathen and other specials were “an absolute revelation” when first released.
