Kelham Island Brewery

2 Kelham Square, Sheffield

Kelham Island Brewery, established in 1990 by the late Dave Wickett, holds the distinction of being Sheffield's first new independent brewery in over a century. Situated in the city's Kelham Island Quarter, the brewery quickly became a pioneer in the UK's craft beer movement. Among its acclaimed brews, **Pale Rider**, a 5.2% ABV pale ale, stands out. This beer combines floral hops, citrus fruit flavors, and biscuity malt, earning it the "Champion Beer of Britain" award at the 2004 Great British Beer Festival. In May 2022, the brewery faced closure but was revitalized later that year by a group of Sheffield entrepreneurs, including Tramlines co-founder James O'Hara and members from Thornbridge Brewery. Their collective efforts ensured that Kelham Island Brewery's legacy and its iconic beers, such as Pale Rider, continue to thrive. Today, the brewery continues its tradition of producing quality ales, channeling the passion of its founder to keep the spirit of Kelham Island Brewery alive.
