About this festival

A celebration of Burton‑upon‑Trent’s brewing heritage, the trail strings together the town’s iconic pubs and breweries into one big, self-guided beer adventure. Think of it as a pilgrimage for anyone who’s ever said “I like a proper pint” and meant it.

🏰 The vibe
- A walkable, friendly, community-led trail through the pubs that made Burton famous.
- A mix of heritage boozers, brewery taps, and hidden gems pouring cask classics, modern twists, and the kind of amber nectar Burton is known for.
- A proper beer‑lover’s atmosphere — relaxed, chatty, and full of people comparing notes on Bass, Burton Bridge, and whatever limited release they’ve just stumbled across.

🍻 What’s pouring
- A showcase of Burton’s signature styles, especially those rich, malty, beautifully conditioned cask ales the town is legendary for.
- Special brews and one-off casks from local breweries, plus curated lineups in participating pubs.
- Brewery tours, tasting sessions, and meet‑the‑brewer moments that give you a peek behind the curtain of Burton’s brewing history.

🎉 Why it’s fun
It’s the perfect blend of tradition and discovery — part history lesson, part pub crawl, part “I can’t believe how good this pint is.” Whether you’re a cask purist or just beer‑curious, Burton Ale Trail turns the whole town into your personal tasting board.

At present the pub line-up for June is still under wraps, in football terms it is too early to name the squad, we are waiting on a few last-minute fitness tests but we’ll be playing to our strengths.

2026 sees the BAT sponsored for the first time and we are looking forward to working with Burton Bridge Brewery, who are our main sponsors and Samuel Allsopp & Sons Ltd. who feature on the second t-shirt. Bass, Double Diamond, G3, Joules and Real Ale Finder will all feature on the shirt and our digital platforms.

One of the trail’s greatest strengths is Burton’s geography, the town is tailor-made for a pub crawl, with most venues within easy walking distance, if you start at The Elms in Stapenhill and finish at The Oak & Ivy near the Town Hall, it’s around two miles and it's relatively flat. In some parts of the trail there are only a few steps between pubs. You can almost fall out of one and straight into the next.
